How To make Werthers caramel pecan bars from Disney's Epcot

Im a Disney fanatic, I go about every weekend! Mind you im from Miami so I drive the 4 1/2 hours just for a days worth of magical fun!!
So for those of you who are similar to me or who just love Disney,I have a hidden treasure to share!
In Disney's Epcot there is a little pavilion in Germany that is called 'Karamell Kuche' that serves up unique treats made with only the finest caramel 'Werthers'.
One treat in particular is the caramel pecan bar that is my absolute favorite!
The dessert is a shortdough base cookie (not too sweet at all) topped with a Werthers caramel sauce & pecans.
I have made my own recipe at home and I am willing to share the love that is this bar!

Directions:
Find (Google, recipe book, moms recipe) a recipe for a short dough. I used a 1-2-3 shorthdough cookie recipe from my culinary school book (Sorry I cant share the recipe but the jist is this butter, sugar, eggs & flour).

Make and bake the dough in  a square pan on 350F for 10 to 12mins untill the dough is lightly golden not too much.

While the dough is baking, make the caramel sauce.

In a microwave safe bowl combine 25 pieces of Werthers chewy caramels
2Tbs of light corn syrup
2Tbs of butter
2Tbs of heavy cream (milk can be substituted if necessary but the caramel wont be as creamy).

Microwave for about 1-2minutes until the caramel pieces are melted and the mixture is combined.

Once the short dough is out of the oven, sprinkle chopped pecans over top then pour the melted caramel sauce over that.
Put back into still warm oven until the caramel starts to bubble.
Take out and let cool.

(Optional): sprinkle with chocolate chips if you like the turtle flavor.

let the bar set in the refrigerator for a few hours.
cut squares and sprinkle with good sea salt (optional as well).

ENJOY my copycat Werthers pecan bars!:)
